.50 Range at Fort Bliss
Here are some pictures taken in August 2001 when myself and a few other
folks headed down to Fort Bliss for drill and fired the M-2 .50 machine guns.
I was last on the list to qualify, and by the time they got to me, they
didn't have enough rounds for a full qualification, so I just got to go
up and fire off some ammunition. It was my first, and so far only, time firing
the .50 and I liked it! :-)

This is the range we were on at McGregor Range which
is actually part in Texas and part in New Mexico.

Nothing can be truly a military operation without some waiting around!

Getting some instruction on the weapon.

Finally, it was time to fire.

More firing. It was *hot* outside this day. When I went up, the
handle of the weapon was very hot to the touch and I was sweating
my ass off almost as soon as I headed out from under the shade.

A picture downrange. You can see the dirt kicked up by some
of the rounds. I was amazed how fast and far these rounds went.

Another view downrange.
