NBC Training
Pretty much everyone knows that soldiers in Basic Training have to
go through the gas chamber and get a taste of tear gas. Some folks
think that is the only time, but it's not. These are pictures taken
when my unit B Company, 121st Signal Battalion, took a little
ruck march to the back-40 of Larson Barracks in Kitzingen and
tested our masks and got another taste of tear gas. Good times
had by all! ;-)
It was an early start to the day. Here we are about to walk
past the entrance to the Hawk site on Larson Barracks.
After arriving at the gas chamber, we all got into our MOPP gear.
It was a great day to be in MOPP gear. Not too hot and just
the right temperature so we didn't sweat very much. :-)
Just so we don't forget that it's the Army, the folks in charge
managed to throw in a little standing around doing nothing.
Of course, no set of pictures would be complete without
a self-portrait of yours truly only this time I've got a mask on!
The first group goes into the gas chamber.
And out they come waving arms to help disperse the tear gas.
Then it was my groups turn. Here is a picture in the room
just before we were let into the main room with the gas.
Going through the motions to make sure the mask is sealed properly.
Finally, the pile of junk they burn to fill the room with tear gas.
